Clip from Amazing Spider-Man.

You see, this is what I’m talking about: a Spider-Man that actually makes jokes. I liked the Raimi films, but I always thought they were severely lacking in the department of what makes Peter Parker/Spider-Man a character—the banter. This is a kid who in a euphoric sense realizes how insane he is and is having a glorious time with it, so in a coping mechanism he can’t stop running his mouth. It’s what makes the character so likable, because that’s exactly what I do in a ridiculous and nerve-wracking situation—I can’t stop yapping. That’s why I think this movie will actually be a better character  movie than the predecessors and will surprise a lot of people.

I have to say Peter Parker’s photo blog, Parker’s POV, is pretty freaking cool viral marketing  for the Amazing Spider-Man movie.

The Cabin In The Woods: I think we might see few better movies in 2012, but that will be up for serious lively debate. The fact that we get two Joss Whedon movies in that many weeks is cause for celebration. I’m seriously doing a happy dance. The best part? The Unicorn.

This is the trailer to a movie in which H.G. Wells uses his Time Machine to hunt down Jack the Ripper in 1979. It’s called Time After Time.  I bought this movie for five bucks last weekend and I expect to get my money’s worth and so much more. Oh yes.

My friends Tim Brearton and Ed Huber are writing, producing, and directing a thriller that takes place during a whitewater rafting trip in the Grand Canyon. The film is called The Ditch and here is a little bit about it:

The Ditch is a psychological thriller about a group of people who are sent down The Colorado river, through the Grand Canyon, by a mysterious company. The rafters are used in an experiment that goes very wrong and the group are challenged by much more than whitewater.

Above is a video Tim recorded for IndieGoGo so they can raise the $3,500 they need to get started making this film.

It’s not really my style to come to you all with hat in hand, but since I have next to nothing involved with the actual making of the film besides some guys I call friends, I hope you all will consider making a donation to help support something I really care about, that being Adirondack filmmaking.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this.

The new Amazing Spider-Man trailer.

I’ll admit it, I’m more interested in this movie than any other super-hero movie this summer. Yay! More movie Spider-Man! (And one who actually makes jokes!)

Victor Arden

—Wake up and Dream: What is this thing called love?

"Wake Up and Dream: What is This Thing Called Love?" performed Victor Arden in the Caswell Collection, Vol. 8, the music of Cole Porter.

I’ve just seen Midnight in Paris and I was absolutely mesmerized by it, especially this music. It was like watching Inception but the characters were actually people and not plot devices.  Loki playing F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda, Hemingway, everyone. Just a truly majestic film.

John Carter (of Mars) trailer!

Starring FNL’s Taylor Kitsch and directed by Wall-E director Andrew Stanton!

I can’t wait, this movie is going to be amazing. Next year in general is going to be a great year for movies. The Peter Gabriel cover of a Arcade Fire song is a nice touch too.

Holy fucking shit I pretty much lost my shit over this. My co-worker likes to note that I change my work computer’s background like, every other week, and it looks like we’re coming up on another change. I might just go hang out at Carnegie Mellon this week. I’ll say one thing though: I want to know who designs Nolan’s posters, it isn’t Olly Moss is it? They are consistently the best.
